Reviewing 3 Fitness Trackers on Global Running Day

 Tracking our steps

Some of my running buddies from our running community use fitness trackers on the runs when we run together. They tell us the distance they have run, their time and speed as well as steps. One explained that it monitors her sleep as to how deep or restless her sleep was. Most people use it for monitoring their steps and calories used, others may want more specific facilities.

The Garmin Vivofit 3 is a simple effective fitness tracker that counts steps, monitors sleep and captures different activities such as walking, running, biking, swimming and cross training. It costs under £100.

The Fitbit Charge 2,  includes the same functions as the Garmin Vivofit 3 above but also comes with a built in heart rate monitor and calories tracking app. This app is good for those who are working on cardio improvement, paying the little bit extra for this specific on cardiovascular health.

We run in the rain (well light rain as long as it's safe) and the Garmin Vivosmart HR is built just for this, it is waterproof, and created for long distance endurance training. With the same basic qualities as the Vivofit 3 but has a heart rate monitor and GPS tracking that allows you to measure the distance and elevation you have travelled outside whether biking or running up hill.

The basic fitness tracker might be what the beginner runner needs to count the number of steps taken, heart rate trackers for those who need to look at calories burned throughout the day and the heart rate monitoring trackers with GPS do all the above with the bonus to communicate with satellites anywhere in the world.

The trackers are handy and compact rather than tracking using mobile phones if you are monitoring your activities and keeping health check records. However some people just run for fun and keep no record of their personal best, just like this coming Sunday when the Fly Girls Running Community enter the Color Run "the happiest 5km run" in the world at Wembley.

  2. In writing the ELD rule, the FMCSA is aware of the cost burden it could be putting on fleets. While it recognizes there’s a net-benefit from the paperwork savings alone, it doesn’t want to saddle drivers and fleets with trucking technology that isn’t affordable. Electronic Logging Devices
